We celebrate the brave election in the village of Andalgala which allowed that the candidates that say no to the mega mining in the area came out victorious in the recent elections, we salute and congratulate the elected mayor Alejandro Paez as well as the town councilors José Luis Cativa and Gloria Peña.

We know that this great challenge taken by all is not to be delegated to the elected officers only, it is rather something that requires commitment and work from the part of the community as a whole, conscious that such a posture goes against enormous political and economical interests.

The viability of this government, under strong opposition both at provincial and national level needs the profound will, conviction, and mobilizing of the people. We again invite the people to keep mobilized without delegating that which is the responsibility of all of us, to make possible an Aldagala which will resist the onslaught of the corrupted political and economical machinery

In much the same way this political proposition takes over the administration of this county compromising with life, the Algarrobo Assembly keeps on the task of awareness and fighting in this scene which today as ever, exceeds the frontiers of Andalgala, recognizing that today, on the International Day of the Water (so declared by the conference of the United Nations for the Environment and Development, in Brazil, in 2010) that the mining project Alumbrera is the one that contaminates and ransacks our water, it is the one that illegally grants servitude for the mining deposits of Agua Rica and Filo Colorado, and destroys our mountains into flat lands, irregularly granted deposits for exploration and prospection, with already proven damage to the glaciers in our territory.

For this reason the Algarrobo Assembly keeps summoning to the union and compromise for life.

There is no social peace if our hills and glaciers are ransacked and contaminated.

Let´s take care of our glaciers !!!
